Prokop confirms 2014 WRC programme

Martin Prokop reveals his plans for the 2014 World Rally Championship season, with Rally Australia the only event missing from his schedule
Martin Prokop has confirmed he will return to the World Rally Championship for the 2014 season after revealing the plans for his privateer team.

The Jipocar Czech National Team will contest every event on the calendar with the exception of Rally Australia in September, with the former Junior World Rally Championship title winner once again at the wheel of a Ford Fiesta RS WRC.

It will mark the third full season at the highest level for the 31-year-old, who will seek to improve on his ninth place in the championship standings this season – with the 63 points scored being his best to date.

“Although the competition will be major again, we are confident enough to defend the results from this season and finish again at the top ten,” he said. “That would be a fantastic result for us as privateers among the four factory teams.

“In the last three events of the 2013 season, we made significant progress in the car set-up and driving style, so we were able to reduce the gap from the absolute top of the field. I believe that the 2014 season will begin with the same performance and we will once again make our fans happy. They will also appreciate the return of Rally Poland to the calendar of the World Rally Championship.”

Prokop will also have a team-mate for the new season, with team manager Quirin Müller revealing that a second car is slated to appear on at least six events over the course of the year.

"Besides the fact that Martin and Michal [Ernst] will score points into the FIA Drivers' and Co-drivers ́ Championship standings, Jipocar Czech National Team is signed in as official team of the FIA Manufacturers' Championship, the same as it was this year,” he said. “The great news for our team is the fact that at least six races beginning with the Monte Carlo we will deploy also our second car, as it will be rented and run by another private driver. So it obviously will not be a boring time for us.”
