Francois Delecour is to make a return to the World Rally Championship after confirming plans to compete on the opening round of the 2014 season in Monte Carlo.

As was the case in 2012, the French veteran will be at the wheel of a Ford Fiesta RS WRC for his one-off outing with Dominique Savignoni reading the pace-notes.

Delecour's 2012 outing saw him take an impressive sixth place finish in what was his first WRC appearance for a decade, and the 51-year-old said he was keen on trying to improve on that result this time around.

"Being realistic, I'm going to aim for fifth - and even that will be a very big challenge," he was quoted by Max Rally. "But at least we can take Sebastien Loeb out of the equation, so that's already a place gained for me! I also think it's asking a lot from Hyundai to be competitive on their first Monte.

"We know who our direct rivals will be and if things go well for us, we could be fifth. Whatever happens, I'm going to really enjoy it. I love this rally and I'm looking forward to driving there already."

Delecour also finished fifth on the Monte back in 2011 when the event was part of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge.
