Rallye Monte Carlo: Wilson keen to get Bouffier out again

Malcolm Wilson says he'd like to see Bryan Bouffier drive a Fiesta RS WRC car again this year.
M-Sport boss Malcolm Wilson has confirmed he'd love to get Bryan Bouffier out on further WRC events this season in the wake of his sensational drive on Rallye Monte Carlo last weekend.

Bouffier put in a great performance and constantly challenged the front runners in his M-Sport-run Ford Fiesta RS WRC car, leading from SS3 to SS9, until he spun and dropped back to second behind eventual winner and reigning World Rally champion, Sebastien Ogier [see separate story – HERE].

Despite that blip though, he had already made his mark and Wilson was clearly impressed with the 34-year-old, who last year finished runner-up in the FIA European Rally Championship.

“It has been an absolutely superb drive from Bryan from start to finish. To finish in second place at Monte – on his first time with the Fiesta RS WRC – shows that he has real potential,” Wilson stated.

“I hope that we can find a way to get him back behind the wheel now as the season continues,” he added.

Bouffier meanwhile was quizzed on his plans for the rest of the year in the post-event press conference and admitted he doesn't know if he will be back out again in the WRC or if he will continue with Hyundai, having acting as one of the team's testers in 2013.

“I don't know yet,” he replied. “We [myself and Hyundai] are talking together, but it's not done yet.

“I'm not sure about more WRC, but we will be in Latvia for the second round of the ERC in two weeks and then we will see.”

Cont : That small detail makes all the difference when you are trying to secure a seat in the WRC. Bouffier is certainly No Rookie, he has extensive experience and given that he is fairly new to WRC machinery it is quite refreshing how well he performed on Monte 2014, his previous best finish here in a WRC Car was an impressive 5th place a DS3 WRC Malcolm is right to be keen to get him out again asap
