Martin Prokop is to be reunited with former co-driver Jan Tomanek from round two of the 2014 World Rally Championship.
Jipocar Czech National Team made the announcement just a couple of weeks into the new WRC campaign, with Michal Ernst, who has partnered Prokop since the 2012 Rally Catalunya and through the entire 2013 season, making way for 'experienced old warhorse' Tomanek.
“I drove with two new co-drivers within last two years, both rallying professionals and my good friends,” Prokop commented, “At the end, the journey led me back to Jan and I am very happy to be on the same page with him again and that we have got common strong will to work hard on our goals.
“Of course, such a change isn't easy for me and for the whole team. Michal was a great team-mate and I would like to thank him very much for his good job as a co-driver. I am also very happy that he still will be working as a valuable member of our team.”
Despite Tomanek jumping back into the co-driver's seat from round two of the season in Sweden next month, Ernst remained philosophical.
“As a professional, I fully accept and understand the team's decision,” he claimed, “Drivers and teams at the highest levels of world championships are looking for the absolute and very best resources – including those human ones. The conditions are extremely demanding also for the very best co-drivers and if Martin has found that the role suits best to Jan, I understand and accept it.
“Martin drives at the absolute top of rallying; he represents important sponsors and the whole Czech motorsport scene. There is no time and space for compromises. Of course, I am not hiding the fact that I would like to spend some more time as a WRC co-driver, nevertheless I am extremely happy for the whole 2013 season. I have got so many new priceless experiences.”
