JRM is to contest three rounds of the 2014 FIA European Rally Championship with its brand-new Gp N specification Subaru WRX STI rally car, it has been confirmed.
The international-spec machine was launched at January's Autosport International Show and its development marks the beginning of an official partnership between JRM and Subaru Tecnica International (STI) – the motorsport division of Subaru.
JRM has chosen to showcase its new car on three of the asphalt rallies that form part of this year's ERC calendar. The events are the Ypres Rally (19-21 June), the Barum Czech Rally Zlin (29-31 August) and the Tour de Corse (6-8 November).
JRM also hope to contest some other international-standard rallies to illustrate the car's potential, including events in Ireland.
“Our new Subaru has caused quite a stir since it was first unveiled and we've had a lot of interest from drivers and teams around the world,” James Rumsey, JRM executive director, said. “The next step for us is to show the capabilities of the car in a competitive situation and there's no better arena than the FIA European Rally Championship.”
“The Gp N competition in the ERC is very strong, but we're confident that our new Subaru WRX STI will prove to be a very fast and reliable package,” he added.
JRM's new Gp N challenger is unique and different to other WRX STIs of the same generation because it is the first in Europe to be built in a sedan configuration. JRM has chosen this specification because the sedan offers improved aerodynamics, traction and balance over the alternative hatchback WRX STI.
The car can be used in all regions where Gp N international and national championships are widely recognised. This includes the FIA European Rally Championship and the WRC2 series, as well as series' in the Middle East, Europe, Africa, Russia and Australasia. The JRM Gp N Subaru programme will be run from the company's headquarters in Daventry. JRM will now reveal the identity of the crew that will spearhead its ERC programme later this month.
