Al Qassimi second on Kuwait Rally

Khalid Al Qassimi gears up for Portugal WRC run with second place in Kuwait
Khalid Al Qassimi will go to Rally de Portugal next week fresh off the back of a second place finish in Kuwait, the latest round in the 2014 FIA Middle East Rally Championship.

Al Qassimi, who will link up with Kris Meeke and Mads Ostberg again as part of the Citroen Total Abu Dhabi WRT line-up in the Algarve, led early on in Kuwait, but dropped back as the opening day progressed. He then remained in striking distance of eventual winner, Nasser Al-Attiyah on day two until he suffered a puncture in the closing stages.

“I'm pleased to have scored the points for second place, even though my aim was to win the rally. I am still fully focussed on the objective of winning the MERC title. I therefore need to score as many points as possible at each event,” reflected Al Qassimi, who now moves up to second in the MERC standings.

“I would like to thank the team for sparing no effort in preparing the cars,” he added. “Our Citroen DS3 RRC had the ideal settings for these conditions.”
