RX: Henning Solberg inks Rallycross deal with Per Eklund Motorsport

Henning Solberg is to link up with Swedish female driver Ramona Karlsson at Per Eklund Motorsport as part of a two-car entry in the 2014 FIA World Rallycross Championship.
WRC veteran Henning Solberg is to compete in the inaugural 2014 FIA World Rallycross Championship, it has been announced.

Henning, who is in action on Rally de Portugal this weekend, running in a privately entered Fiesta RS WRC, will drive a Per Eklund Motorsport-run Saab 93 Supercar. He will be joined in the two-car team by Swedish female driver Ramona Karlsson - the first female in World RX. Karlsson is due to do a minimum of seven rounds this season. It has not been confirmed how many events Henning will take in.

Martin Anayi, managing director of the FIA World Rallycross Championship for IMG Motorsport, noted: “Adding Ramona and Henning to our driver line-up in 2014 is more fantastic news for our Championship. With the opening round in Portugal just over a month away [May 3-4], all the teams are now in their final preparations for what is expected to be an extremely competitive year of racing ahead.

"Ramona is a very talented driver and of course it's encouraging to have another car marque in the form of Saab on the grid.

"I'm also pleased to hear that Henning will join us again this year, he is one of the most technically astute drivers out there and of course it will be interesting to watch the sibling rivalry between himself and [2003 World Rally Champion] Petter.”
