Volkswagen's Jari-Matti Latvala has crashed out of Rally de Portugal after going off the road in the first stage of the afternoon.

Latvala, who had been second overall going into SS5 - just 0.4 seconds off team-mate and rally leader, Sebastien Ogier, rolled his Polo R WRC around 11 kilometres into the Silves 2 test. Latvala and co-driver, Miikka Anttila both escaped unharmed.

It has yet to be confirmed if they will be able to re-start under Rally 2, although it is thought likely.
