Multiple British Rally Champion Mark Higgins is to drive in three rounds of the European Rally Championship in 2014 after penning a deal with JRM.

Driving a Group N version of Subaru's all-new WRC STI model, Higgins will compete on the upcoming Ypres Rally, the Barum Czech Rally Ziln and the International Rallye du Valais.

The British motorsport preparation specialist is confident Higgins' vast experience in new car development and international competition makes him the perfect driver to spearhead its ERC campaign.

"Mark has a fantastic pedigree in motorsport and his rally-winning experience will be a massive benefit to our Subaru programme," James Rumsey, JRM executive director, said. "The ERC is fiercely competitive but we think that with Mark behind the wheel of our WRX STI we can illustrate the step in performance that comes with a latest specification Gp N car."

JRM's new Gp N Subaru WRX STI is unique because it is the first of its type in Europe to be built in a sedan configuration. JRM has chosen this specification because the sedan offers improved aerodynamics, traction and balance over the alternative hatchback WRX STI.

Higgins, who already drives for Subaru in the China Rally Championship, is relishing the opportunity to join the FIA European Rally Championship field.

"It's great to be involved with a new team and to be driving a brand-new car on some fantastic events. The ERC is a very strong championship and the Gp N cars of today are very rewarding to drive. They're like the Gp A cars of yesteryear in terms of performance."
