Solberg set for proper return?

Henning Solberg keen to do eight of the nine remaining 2014 WRC events, says he is 'near' to 'closing' a deal.
Henning Solberg is hoping to take in all the remaining events in the 2014 World Rally Championship, with the exception of next month's Rally Argentina, he has said.

The 42-year-old took an impressive fifth place on Rally de Portugal earlier this month, his first gravel event in a World Rally Car for more than two years and is now keen to sort a deal to do all the rounds from Sardinia on, again using an M-Sport-run Ford Fiesta RS WRC.

“[M-Sport boss] Malcolm [Wilson] has a car for me to use in Sardinia and we are near to closing it [a deal],” the veteran told WRC.com. “I hope we can do everything except for Argentina. That's my dream.”

“Rally is my passion. It's the most important motorsport for me,” he added. “I am good enough to be top-three in the world if I have the right seat every time. I still hope I can be at least a number two driver in a team. That is my dream.

“I want to show them how fast I can really be.”

“The Fiesta that I had in Portugal was one of the best cars I've had to now,” he continued. “That felt like a proper car.”

Henning made his World Rally Championship debut back in 1998 and has since taken in over 100 WRC events. His last full season was in 2011. This year, in addition to Portugal, he has also done Rally Sweden, where he finished seventh.

Good for Henning ! I really hope he can get the budget together and have some leftover for some reasonable testing to allow him to show his true speed and ability He has always been spectacular in a World Rally Car and he is always laughing and joking and goofing around. Just an all round Top guy and I would imagine he would lift the moral in any Team that is lucky enough to have this Guy driving for them. I think He belongs at M-Sport though, he has so much experience in the WRC, between him and Mikko I think both Elfyn and Kubica should be able to learn a lot from them and learn it fast. Fingers crossed he hits the Jackpot and gets a Top Car for the rest of 2014.
