Rally Australia adds night time Super Special stage

Rally Australia gets new addition with 'Hyundai Super Special Stage'
Rally Australia will include a brand new night time Super Special stage this year, it has been announced.

The 1.6 kilometre test, which will include tarmac and gravel sections, will be run on a course in the precincts of the C.ex Coffs International Stadium, three kilometres south of the city centre and adjacent to the Hi-Tec Oils Service Park. Drivers will do two laps and will tackle it both on the Friday and Saturday of the event.

It will be sponsored by Hyundai and organisers are predicting it will attract thousands of spectators.

“These will be nights packed with unforgettable entertainment - the Hyundai Super Special Stage will be a must-see highlight of Coates Hire Rally Australia in 2014,” event manager David Catchpole said. “Spectators will be able to get quite close to the action and experience the sight and sound of a World Rally Car at full tilt.

“I'm sure the course we have developed will provide a terrific challenge for drivers, with the inclusion of several spectacular jumps.”

The daytime Special Stages meanwhile will be run on forestry and shire roads in the Coffs Coast region to the north, west and south of the Service Park. Rally Australia, round ten in the 2014 World Rally Championship, takes place from September 11-14.
