Rally Italia Sardegna: Meeke to re-start

Britain's Kris Meeke forced out early on Friday due to an electrical problem, which forced him to park his Citroen DS3 WRC.
Citroen WRC pilot Kris Meeke will re-start on Rally Italia Sardegna on Saturday after an electrical problem put him out on Friday.

Meeke was running seventh when a battery warning light came on in SS4 and while he got to the end of that test – despite reporting a loss of power, he was unable to complete SS5 and had to park his Citroen DS3 WRC car, dropping him out of contention.

He will now re-join in 30th having missed Friday afternoon's repeat loop.

“I felt very good in the car. We weren't taking any risks and the times were pretty good. On SS4, we had a warning light for the battery. We didn't have enough time before the start of the next stage to try and locate the problem. Unfortunately, we lost all power after five kilometres on SS5 so we had to stop,” he explained.

Citroen deputy team principal Marek Nawarecki added: “Kris was held up by an electrical problem on SS4 before having to retire on SS5. Fortunately, after analysis by our technical team, he'll be able to rejoin.”

Team-mate Mads Ostberg meanwhile ended the day third, while Khalid Al Qassimi is 12th in the third car entered under the Citroen Total Abu Dhabi WRT banner.

“We knew that the first few stages would be difficult. We were fairly cautious to make sure we avoided making any mistakes on the more uneven sections. The other stages went better," Ostberg stated.

"I'm very happy to end the day in third position. It is still very tight at the front. It should be a good battle again tomorrow."
