Rally Poland: Latvala tops shakedown

Volkswagen's Jari-Matti Latvala was quickest in the shakedown for WRC Rally Poland this morning, 0.5 seconds up on Mads Ostberg
Jari-Matti Latvala was fastest this morning in the shakedown for Rally Poland, the seventh round in the 2014 FIA World Rally Championship.

Latvala opted for four runs through the test in his Volkswagen Polo R WRC, setting his best time on his final run, when he completed it in 1 minute 59.3 seconds, putting him 0.5 seconds up on Mads Ostberg's Citroen.

Andreas Mikkelsen meanwhile was third, just 0.1 seconds further back in the Volkswagen Motorsport II Polo R WRC, with 2013 WRC Champion Sebastien Ogier fourth - doing just two runs - and Britain's Kris Meeke fifth. Local star Robert Kubica tied for P6 with Thierry Neuville while Henning Solberg, Juho Hanninen and Hayden Paddon filled positions 8 through to 10.

The event now gets underway this afternoon with SS1, the 14.54 kilometre run through Milki 1, due to start at 16.40 hours. Competitors then tackle the 17.24 km Kruklanki test (SS2 – at 17.30 hours), before the leg concludes with the short 2.50 km Mikolajki Arena SSS (SS3 – at 20.05 hours – all time local).
