Mads Ostberg has retired from Rally Poland as he was unable to re-start this morning under Rally 2 due to rollcage damage.

Ostberg crashed out in his Citroen DS3 WRC in Goldap 1 on Saturday (SS14), rolling his car near the finish after hitting a rock - the same rock also claimed M-Sport man Elfyn Evans and damaged the Volkswagen Polo R WRC of Jari-Matti Latvala.

Ostberg had been running in third place overall - a position he had held since SS5 on Friday - and was just 9.6 seconds off Andreas Mikkelsen in P2.

"I had a good feeling in the car. The set-up of the Citroen DS3 WRC suited me and I had good pace. These improvements could be seen in the overall standings. But on a left-hand corner [in SS14], I hit a rock on the apex," he recounted.

"Evans and Latvala also got caught out at the same point. On the next corner, I had no steering and no brakes. We went off and rolled the car."

"It's really disappointing as we were really in contention!" he added.
