WRC: Pressure will be high in Germany, admits Capito

Volkswagen closes on 2014 WRC Manufacturers' title, could seal it on home soil in Germany
Volkswagen motorsport director Jost Capito has admitted the pressure will be on next week in Germany when the squad tackles its home event.

Rallye Deutschland did not go well last year for VW, with Sebastien Ogier and Jari-Matti Latvala both making errors and squandering the chance to win.

The team will now get a chance to make amends from August 21-24 as it looks to extend its unbroken run of WRC triumphs to 13.

In addition, Volkswagen will also have the opportunity to clinch the 2014 WRC Manufacturers' crown, given the gap to Citroen is a massive 175 points with five events remaining - and a maximum 215 points left on the board.

“Theoretically it's possible [to take the Manufacturers' crown] but everything can happen. Germany did not go well for us last year, we did not get on the podium,” Capito said.

“The pressure is really high and we expect a better result and that's what we are working for this year. We have to make up for last year's result at home.

“We are working hard, with all of our energy focused.

"The approach will be the same as all rallies this season: we've got to do our best and to deliver to our bosses the right result on that rally.”
