Robert Kubica has said the reason he went off in SS3 this morning on Rallye Deutschland was because he "got distracted into a tight hairpin" and then missed the line.

The Pole had been ninth quickest in SS1 and SS2, finishing the latter test just 2.4 seconds off Thierry Neuville in P8.

However he made an error near the start of the 21.02 km Moselland 1 test, damaging his front left wheel and the clutch. He lost over 4 minutes and now drops down to 34th position in his M-Sport-run Ford Fiesta RS WRC car.

"I got distracted into a tight hairpin, then straight after that there was a junction which tightened and I missed the line," he confirmed. "We went in too fast with not enough steering angle. We slid off the road into the vineyards and the spectators helped us to get the car back onto the stage which was not easy."

"There's not much damage on the car," he added. "The rim on one of the wheels was damaged so there were quite a few vibrations for the rest of the stage.

"The mechanics will check everything in service and we'll continue to concentrate on our own rally through the afternoon loop."
