Championship leader Sebastien Ogier has retired from Rallye Deutschland again following a "big crash" this morning in SS8.

The accident occurred near the start of the 11.08 km Peterberg 1 test, with the Frenchman making heavy contact with a barrier.

Ogier and co-driver Julien Ingrassia both escaped unharmed, but were taken to hospital for checks.

"Big crash for us in stage 8," Ogier tweeted, "but Julien and me are OK, just doing right now the precautionary safety checks. Everything fine."

SS8 was cancelled following the crash as a safety barrier was badly damaged in the incident.

Ogier had been running first on the road after restarting today under Rally 2. The Frenchman went off in the final test on Friday while leading by 5.5 seconds.

It remains to be confirmed if he will be able re-start on Sunday and go for bonus points in the Power Stage. Whether he does or not though, his 44-point championship lead is likely to be slashed, especially as team-mate Jari-Matti Latvala is currently on course for victory.
