WRC Wales Rally GB: Nandan 'proud' of Hyundai's form on return

Michel Nandan says Hyundai should be “very happy” with what it has accomplished in the 2014 World Rally Championship
Hyundai boss Michel Nandan says he is “proud” of what the team has achieved in its debut year.

Hyundai returned to the sport in 2014, with the Alzenau-based squad taking a memorable, if fortuitous, one-two on Rallye Deutschland back in August.

The team also took podiums in Mexico and Poland too though, as well as 12 stage wins, to exceed in many ways the targets set for year one with the Hyundai i20 WRC.

“I am personally very proud of everything our young team has achieved this year,” Nandan reflected after Wales Rally GB, the season finale.

“From the debut at Monte Carlo to our 1-2 in Germany and this weekend in Wales, we have made a lot of progress with many highlights.

“In some regards, we have exceeded our targets but most importantly we have built up a huge bank of experience, information and knowledge which will be crucial to us as we prepare our second season.

“We will sit down and reflect on this complete season but the team and drivers have performed fantastically well all year and I think we can all be very happy with what we've accomplished in such a short space of time.”

Nandan also added that the result on Wales Rally GB was pleasing, with Thierry Neuville taking fourth, while Hayden Paddon was tenth and Juho Hanninen 30th under Rally 2, after crashing out in SS3 on Friday.

“We have met our targets of a three car finish [in Wales], and worked very hard to make improvements to the i20 WRC cars over this weekend,” Nandan continued. “These conditions are unlike any we have faced during the season so it is a useful addition to our learning curve. As the final rally of 2014, we have brought our learning season to a successful conclusion.”
