WRC Wales Rally GB: Tanak hoping result good for future

Ott Tanak finishes seventh - and as top privateer - on Wales Rally GB on his return to the premier category
Ott Tanak put in a mature performance to finish seventh on Wales Rally GB last weekend and he is now hopeful the result will be “good for the future”.

Tanak is rumoured to be in the frame to get a full-time drive with M-Sport again next season, replacing Mikko Hirvonen, who announced his retirement from the sport at the start of the month.

“I think it's been a good event for us and I've really enjoyed being back in a WRC car at the top level of the sport,” said Tanak, who did a full season with the Cumbrian outfit in 2012, before being dropped.

“The plan was to get used to driving a world rally car again on the first day and then get closer to our best times on day two. That was what we did – job done!

"Okay we were a bit rusty in the beginning, but we had a good feeling yesterday afternoon. We managed to set some good times and were getting close to the top five.

“Unfortunately we picked up a puncture on Sunday morning so we had to be a bit careful after that as we only had one spare. But the important thing was to drive without any mistakes, to get the experience and the feeling for this event.

“Hopefully this result will be good for our future.”

I wasn't so sure this was a contract clinching Result, maybe a podium would of been impressive, but seventh after Latvala dropped behind him was not so impressive He could come Good, but then again there are not exactly lots of Good drivers out there who are looking for a seat If I had to chose I would be a tad more inclined to give Tanak a contract that say Paddon I don't think Meeke and Ostberg will be available for much longer and then you have Tidemand or maybe Lappi or someone like this Stephane Leferbve could soon be contracted to drive and test for Citroen long term with a view to a future contract so drivers are seemingly on Teams Radars a lot sooner than the old days. The Ladder of Opportunity is certainly finding the Up and coming drivers of tomorrow
