Solberg bags third Rally Sweden Historic victory

Petter Solberg takes his third Rally Sweden Historic victory and his fourth Swedish win in total
2003 World Rally champion and 2014 World Rallycross champion Petter Solberg took his third successive victory on Saturday on Rally Sweden Historic.

Solberg, who was co-driven by his wife Pernilla - as he was in 2013 and 2014, was in a class of his own, setting the pace in every single stage and eventually winning by over 3 minutes in his Ford Escort Mk II.

The win came on the tenth anniversary of his 2005 Rally Sweden victory with the Subaru World Rally Team.

“Third Rally Sweden Historic win in a row - and we did it on Valentine's Day!” Petter wrote on his Facebook page. “We had some great fun out there on the Swedish winter roads. Thanks for all the amazing support!”

Speaking later - and after donating the 520 Euro prize fund to the Rally Sweden volunteers post-event party - he added: “This has been fantastic. I did this event for the first time in 2013 and really enjoyed it, but it's just got better and better every time. This year we had done some more work on the car and it was just amazing. I'm a rally driver again and it was fantastic. I loved it.

“Driving at home in Norway, in front of the big crowds was unbelievable for me yesterday and then it was the same for Pernilla when we were competing here in Sweden today.

"What a great event and, not a bad result either, eh?”

“Petter did a very good job for the last two days. He drove really well and I think we definitely entertained some of the fans,” Pernilla continued.

“For sure, we entertained them in Vargasen, when we came over Colin's Crest. I could feel in the car that we were lifting off – we flew so far!"
