M-Sport World Rally Team's Ott Tanak played it "smart" to recover to finish a strong fourth on Rally Sweden on Sunday.

Tanak, who was looking to get off the mark after a disappointing start to the season on Rallye Monte Carlo last month, struggled initially, losing 20 or so seconds in the first 'proper' stage, SS2, when hit a snow bank and had to reverse.

The Estonian fought back, however, and re-built his confidence as the event progressed, avoiding further drama and posting six top-five times in his Ford Fiesta RS WRC - including a second best time in Saturday's Hagfors Sprint 2 - to climb back up the leaderboard from P9 to P4, finishing 1 minute 46.2 seconds off third and 1 minute 5.5 seconds up on Hayden Paddon's Hyundai in fifth.

"I'm really happy to have come away with fourth position," Tanak said after round two in WRC 2015. "We struggled in the beginning - the road position wasn't great and I made a little mistake early on.

"After that we weren't really in any sort of a battle so we just had to play it smart and stay on the road - and here we are with a really strong result."

"It was good to regain the confidence," he added. "Now we can look to build the speed step-by-step and when we have a strong feeling we can push a bit more. A few more rallies like this and we can look to up the pace so that is really good for the future.

"I am sure we can be stronger as the season progresses."
