Citroen's Kris Meeke says it was his own fault he crashed out of Rally Mexico on Friday in SS4, as he simply “misjudged the speed”.
Meeke had made a great start in his DS 3 WRC, posting the quickest time in SS3 – the first 'proper' test of the event – to move up to third place overall. However, he then crashed out near the start of SS4 and was unable to continue. The Briton will re-join on Saturday under Rally 2.
“I had adopted a safe rhythm on this morning's first stage. I was pleased with my pace and the time had been very good [in SS3],” Meeke said.
“Unfortunately, I [then] made a mistake on SS4. I had too much speed coming into a corner and we went off. It wasn't a pace note error, I just misjudged the speed at which to taken the bend.”
Meeke had been hoping to eliminate mistakes
this weekend, after making errors in Sweden and Monte Carlo. He was, however in good company, as a number of other top drivers also went out, including Thierry Neuville, Ott Tanak and Robert Kubica.
