Hyundai Motorsport has given WRC driver Kevin Abbring permission to compete in the FIA European Rally Championship next month in the Ypres Rally.
The Dutch rally driver will compete in a privately entered Citroen DS3 R5 in Belgium after being invited to race by eight-time Belgian rally champion Pieter Tsjoen.
Hyundai has accepted Abbring's request to race at the event after recently announcing its test rally driver will be entered into four upcoming WRC rounds.
The 26-year-old contested the European Rally Championship last season and notched up podium finishes in Azores and Corsica, before moving into the WRC this year with Hyundai. Abbring's most recent WRC outing was an 11th place finish in Rally Sweden.
“I am happy to announce that I will be competing in Ypres in a couple of weeks,” Abbring said. “I've got the green light from Hyundai Motorsport to drive on invitation from Pieter Tsjoen in a DS3 R5 as a private entrant.
“It's a great opportunity to get back some rhythm, it's been a while since my last event and any competitive kilometre will help in order to be as competitive and ready as possible for our next outing in WRC.”
The Ypres Rally is set to act as round five of the 2015 European Rally Championship on the 25-27 June.
