M-Sport team principal Malcolm Wilson OBE says he expects his drivers Elfyn Evans and Ott Tanak to be challenging for rostrum finishes at Rallye Deutschland to convert the new Ford Fiesta RS machine's potential into impressive result.

The British team will debut the new Ford Ecoboost-powered Fiesta RS WRC car in an asphalt rally in Germany after maiden outings on gravel.

Wilson says the team's targets set at the start of the year were for both Evans and Tanak to be consistently battling for podiums in the second part of the season and sees Rallye Deutschland as an ideal opportunity.

"At the start of the year, our strategy was to start targeting podiums in the second half of the season and Rallye Deutschland is certainly an event we have set our sights on," Wilson confirmed. "As the first asphalt event with the new car, there is an element of the unknown but our Tarmac test programme has been extremely encouraging."

In 2015, Evans and Tanak have notched up single third place finishes each - Evans in Argentina and Tanak in Poland - and sit seventh and eighth in the WRC drivers' championship respectively.

12 months ago Evans notched up his equal-best result in 2014 in the shape of fourth place while former driver Mikko Hirvonen grabbed fifth as the pair consistently battled for top spot in a number of stages.

"Both drivers have historically performed well in Germany," Wilson said. "Elfyn [Evans] proved just how competitive he could be last year and, although he has not competitively driven a world rally car on pure asphalt since 2012, Ott [T?nak] also has the potential to perform strongly.

"The entire team is highly motivated ahead of this event and we're looking forward to seeing what rewards the pace of Elfyn, Ott and the new car can produce on Tarmac."
