Ford privateer Lorenzo Bertelli is to sit out this weekend's Rallye Deutschland.

Bertelli missed some of the recce earlier this week due to illness - suspected food poisoning - and has now had to withdraw.

"I'm afraid to say that since I've been sick during recce and I couldn't even complete some stages, I'm forced not to start #RallyGermany," tweeted the Fiesta RS WRC pilot.

A statement from his team - FWRT SRL - added:

"We're afraid to announce that Lorenzo Bertelli felt sick during the recce days and is not in the [right] condition to take part in the event, since he couldn't even do the recce on some stages. The team is very sorry for all the fans who wanted to see them in action in the German vineyards, but we will come back next year.
