WRC Rallye Deutschland: Ostberg 'confident' he can keep seat
Mads Ostberg: If I have a bad second half of the year, it is not good, but I feel confident that we will have a good second half of the season and that we will have a drive for next year
Citroen's Mads Ostberg says he is “confident” he can do well in the second half of the season and retain his drive in 2016.
Ostberg comes into Rallye Deutschland third in the Drivers' Championship and he is the only top driver to have finished in the top-ten in every single event this year, peaking with podiums in Mexico, Argentina and last time out in Finland.
“There still a long way to go this season,” Ostberg replied when asked about next year. “If I have a bad second half of the year, it is not good, but I feel confident that we will have a good second half of the season and that we will have a drive for next year.”
Pressed on if he can get better results in the second half, he added: “That is difficult to say. Like you said, we have been consistent. Some good results: some seconds and a third place. We have done pretty much what I wanted to do. I wanted to be very consistent in the first half of the year; that was very important for me.
“Now, we want to carry over that momentum to the second half of the season and especially onto the tarmac events, which can be a bit challenging [for me].
“Hopefully, we can continue to achieve our goals.”
As for if he can challenge for a win, Ostberg believes that will be possible - but only on the coming gravel events.
“Yes, I think so, but it will not be on this rally [Rallye Deutschland]. It will perhaps come later in the season, and it will probably have to be gravel rally, so Australia will be the next option. Then there are Spain and Wales which have suited me very well in the past as well.”
Meanwhile, Ostberg said he was pleased with how pre-event testing went for this weekend's round in Germany.
“It was a good day of testing. I tried mainly to focus on myself. I did 400 kilometres, so it was quite a big day, but I enjoyed it. I tried to improve my driving on tarmac and I tried to be prepared for this event, which is quite a challenging rally,” he stressed.
“I had a good feeling in the shakedown [this morning] as well, especially the first run was very nice, so I hope to continue in that way.”
