WRC Rallye Deutschland: Lefebvre exceeds expectations on WRC car debut

Stephane Lefebvre scores first point in World Championship on WRC car debut in Germany
Stephane Lefebvre took an impressive tenth place finish on his WRC car debut on Rallye Deutschland last weekend, earning him the plaudits of Citroen boss Yves Matton, who described the end result as “beyond expectations”.

The young Frenchman, who won the FIA Junior WRC and WRC3 titles last year, gradually upped his pace on his competitive debut with the DS 3 WRC, posting 16 top-ten stages times in total, including going second quickest in SS12 and sixth in SS5.

“The aim was to finish in the top ten, and we did just that and so I scored my first point in the World Championship!” Lefebvre said.

“We improved as we completed more stages and we managed to reduce the gap separating us from the leading crews.

“It was a positive weekend and we didn't make any major mistakes. I'm really pleased to finish this race and to have collected so much experience. I hope it's the start of a long series with the DS 3 WRC!”

Meanwhile, Matton confirmed that Citroen are keen to keep supporting the 23-year-old: “On his first rally in the DS 3 WRC, Stephane had an impressive race, which will have surprised many onlookers.

“He applied the instructions given to him by the team to the letter and the end result is beyond our expectations.

“His stage times and his splits were very interesting. We are keen to keep supporting him as he improves.”

Lefebvre is now due to do at least one more full-WRC outing this season, alongside continuing to compete in WRC2.
