Former WRC star Gigi Galli is set to launch back on to the World RX stage with the new Kia Rio at the upcoming round in Italy.

The 42-year-old made his World RX debut 12 months ago in the Italian round and has been enticed back once again but this time with a new rallycross challenger and his own team.

Galli, who claimed two podium finishes in his 10-year WRC career along with 23 stage wins, says he is thrilled to return to World RX having narrowly missed out on the final in Italy on his debut last year.

"I'm delighted to be back in World RX," Galli said. "My supporters have been pushing for this to happen and combined with my endless passion for racing it has finally happened.

"I am especially excited about creating a brand new team and car plus it's great to also have Giovanni [Bernacchini] by my side. We will introduce ourselves at the Italian World RX round at Franciacorta next month. Our aim is not to win, it would be foolish to think we could do that straightaway - we simply want to demonstrate how hard we have worked so far."

The World RX round of Italy is scheduled for the 16-18 October.
