Evans returns to British Rally Championship

Elfyn Evans is set to dovetail his WRC 2 commitments with M-Sport alongside a full season in the revitalised MSA British Rally Championship with the DMACK British Rally Team.

The Welsh driver was dropped from M-Sport's WRC premier class line-up this winter but will remain with Malcolm Wilson's squad in 2016 to develop the updated Ford Fiesta R5 and compete at selected WRC 2 events.

Evans will team-mate Finnish driver Max Vatanen in the seven-round British championship to make his first appearance in the series since 2012, having enjoyed three consecutive campaigns in WRC.

The 27-year-old says he can't wait to get going at the season opener, his home event in Mid-Wales, and is focusing on victories as well as useful mileage in the Fiesta R5.

“It's great to be back in the BRC during a revival year which sees the championship organisers putting so much effort into getting the series back to a high level,” Evans said. “To start our campaign on my home event at the Mid-Wales Stages will definitely be a special feeling, the Pirelli is back in there, which is a really fast event and the Nicky Grist I did in an R5 in 2013 and quite a few times in an R2.

“Whilst I will be pushing on every rally, the events will additionally provide us with valuable seat time in the Ford Fiesta R5 for our challenge in WRC2.

“This is an opportunity for me to really bring the fun back into the sport personally. Some of the most enjoyment I've had in my career was driving the R2 to the limit on a lot of the British rallies, so we're definitely looking forward to enjoying ourselves more than anything this year.”
