Ogier: Rallye Monte Carlo most important of the year

Defending WRC champion Sebastien Ogier calls Rallye Monte Carlo 'the most important rally of the year' as he prepares for the 2016 season.
Defending World Rally Champion Sebastien Ogier has called Rallye Monte Carlo 'the most important rally of the year' as his finishes his final preparations for the 2016 WRC season.

The Volkswagen Motorsport driver stormed to the WRC crown for the third consecutive time last year in his Polo R WRC machine, taking eight victories in the 13-round season, and again only has eyes on a fourth world title.

Having won Rallye Monte Carlo for the past two years, the French driver places extra significance on the event which runs through the town he grew up in, Gap, and knows how important it is to get off to a winning start.

“I cannot imagine a better rally, with which to start the new season,” Ogier said. “I have won the 'Monte' for the past two years, and would obviously like to win it again this year. For me, it is the most important rally of the year.”

An expert in the ice, snow and wet conditions, Ogier has the experience and knowledge to tackle the unique challenge the 'Monte' poses but knows he still needs to rely on his support crew to nail the perfect tyre strategy which could be key to this year's event.

“The key factor is tyre selection. We drivers are very dependent on our ice spies. It is all about interpreting the weather conditions correctly and understanding the unique weather in the Alps.”
