Bryan Bouffier has been denied a top six finish on the Monte Carlo Rally after being forced to retire with damage to his Ford Fiesta WRC RS.

The Frenchman was in contention for a top five finish as he embarked on a duel with countryman Stefan Lefebvre, but having gotten to within four seconds of his rival coming into the final stage of the day on leg three, a slip on ice saw him strike a wheel and bend his rear suspension.

Though he limped to the end of the stage, Bouffier was forced to retire his Fiesta before the final leg. This gives Lefebvre a clear run for fifth place - which will be his best WRC result yet -, while Dani Sordo has gained two places to go sixth on the first stage of the last day having also overtaken Ott Tanak.
