Eric Camilli has suffered his third consecutive retirement in his opening three World Rally Championship events for M-Sport after slipping off on SS11 Ibarrilla at Rally Mexico.

After sustaining frustrating crashes at Rallye Monte Carlo and Rally Sweden the young French driver has completed an unfortunate hat-trick of retirements by binning his M-Sport Ford Fiesta RS WRC machine just 2km away from the end of the opening stage on Saturday's leg three.

The M-Sport driver, who said before the third round of the 2016 WRC season his goal was simply to finish in Rally Mexico after two pointless outings, had been running in 11th overall after a tentative start to the Central American event.

However, disaster struck less than 2km from the stage finish when he crashed out and was forced to retire with damage to the front right of his car.

Elsewhere, Jari-Matti Latvala continued to make his advantageous road position count by pulling out nearly 20 seconds on his Volkswagen Motorsport team-mate Sebastien Ogier to extend his overall lead to 51.9s.
