Jari-Matti Latvala has moved to within three seconds of leader Thierry Neuville at the midway stage of Saturday's action to set up a dramatic climax to Rally d'Italia in Sardinia.

Hyundai's Neuville has seen his 11-second advantage over the Finnish driver shrink to just 2.9 seconds at the end of SS12 Monte Lerno and the pair look set for a straight shootout for the victory as WRC championship leader Sebastian Ogier was cut adrift by almost one minute in third.

M-Sport Ford's Mads Ostberg enjoyed an impressive morning of stages to move just 0.3s off of Ogier for the final rostrum place having taken fourth from Andreas Mikkelsen in the third Volkswagen Polo R WRC.

90 seconds off his fellow Hyundai driver Neuville, Dani Sordo holds a lonely sixth ahead of Ott Tanak, with Henning Solberg in seventh.

Despite quick stage times from M-Sport's Eric Camilli he remained off the pace of the top ten.

The action resumes later this afternoon for SS13 the second running of Monti di Ala which kicks of a repeat programme from Saturday morning.
