Sebastien Ogier has held on to his half a minute lead over nearest challenger Ott Tanak to put him in prime position for a fourth consecutive victory at Wales Rally GB.
The already-crowned WRC champion has held station over DMACK WRT Ford's Tanak throughout day two as his time advantage flexed around the half-minute mark before settling at 33.8s at the end of the short 1.8km SS16 Cholmondeley Castle stage.
Tanak had closed to within 25 seconds of Ogier thanks to a hat-trick of wins during the second loop of Saturday's stages but the Volkswagen Motorsport driver reasserted the half-minute buffer with victory on SS15 Aberhirnant.
Behind the front two the battle for the final rostrum spot intensified between two Hyundai Motorsport drivers with Thierry Neuville ending the day third 12.6s ahead of Hayden Paddon.
Local favourite Kris Meeke looks destined to take fifth place for Abu Dhabi Total WRT Citroen in the 2016 model's final appearance of the season, ahead of the third Hyundai of Dani Sordo in sixth.
M-Sport Ford's Mads Ostberg is slowly being reeled in by Volkswagen's Jari-Matti Latvala, who dropped down the order due to a loss of four-wheel drive over the final few stages of day one, as Stephane Lefebrve looks comfortable for a distant ninth as Eric Camilli completes the top ten runners.
Andreas Mikkelsen has progressed up to 14th at the end of SS16 having also suffered power loss problems throughout day one in his Volkswagen Polo R WRC machine but is still just over two minutes off Camilli and the final points-paying position.
