Actually, there needs to be a happy medium between the old, and the new. 12-14 identikit events, with 3 stages a day repeated around a service park has ruined the WRC. Each event needs it's own identity. So a mix of 2, 3, 4 day events. Some sprint, some endurance, etc
I'd even think about returning to some weekday events - Cycling gets huge crowds midweek for their big races, so why not WRC???
Also, what the sport needs is massive financial investment, meaning teams can pick & actually pay their drivers - rather than taking on drivers with deep wallets.
Qatar M-Sport WRT seems a good fit: Al Attiyah, Ostberg??? Solberg???
