Having watched Ben Spies from the time he was about 12 years old on a 125cc at Oak Hill race track in Henderson, TX I have seen him go from a devistatingly fast club racer to an unbelievably fast racer period.

For anyone who has not seen the Spies/Mladin races in person, you cannot appreciate how much faster than the rest of the field these guys are. They typically finish several corners ahead of the 3rd place bikes in EVERY SINGLE RACE. On a couple of tracks where horsepower matters, it is a little closer, but not by much.

Also, Spies was offered rides in MotoGP on sattelite teams, which he wisely turned down. This will get him a Yamaha MotoGP ride.

If sykes beats spies in the championship standings, do all the people who think spies deserves the tech 3 seat think it should go to sykes? Afterall won't that prove who is the better rider.

Hodgson said a month or so ago either on speed or superbikeplanet that he is contracted to Honda and will ride wherever they place him. He said even if Honda doesn't have a ride for him in AMA or elsewhere that he'll still get paid.

WSBK 2009 is gonna rule :)
ok we lose Troy, but there are now so many good riders and factory machines galore, it has the potential for being the best ever, even Rossi! might jump series soon :p

Spies wasn't offered a satellite ride or a manufacturers ride in MotoGP. He was asking for too much money for a one horse champion. The R1 is a race winning bike so it should be expected for him to have good lap times but this doesn't mean he'll win the Championship nor does it mean he'll do well at all or most of the tracks. Plus he isn't just racing Mladin anymore. If Yamaha Tech 3 is smart they should look at up and coming 250 GP guys that can produce for them with potential to move into the factory team in the future.

He is definitely going to rip this year. I wouldn't bet against a WSBK title for Yamaha next year with Spies at the helm.

Does anyone know if he is going to get any wildcard rides for Yamaha this year? Also would they be with Fiat or Tech3?

So Spies gets on a new team and a half day later is running at race pace on a bike he hasn't rode before at a track he hasn't been at before.

Yah, Yamaha should have gone with a MotoGP 250 guy. Totally makes since.
