@ Johnny
His debut season was astonishing at a level comparable only to Hamilton's first F1 season
Not really Spies Won the Wc in his rookie Hamilton did not, AND Doug polen is THE most succesfull rookie in Sbk's with 10 poles and 17 (yes 17) wins in his rookie season and WC (again in 92) also a texan.The Yam IS a great bike Sykes was just poor (and unlucky) in comparison, the R1 has 3 WC this year as a New bike with a 1,2 in BSB so i think the Yam was most definately a WC winning Bike.
Fair play to Ben though well deserved and feel sorry for Haga abit unlucky and the pressure got to him in race 1 would have loved to see him WC. What great season we had, heres to a better 10!! :D

Sorry I should have pointed out that my comparison was based on seasons I have followed motorsport. With that clarified, it doesn't matter El Ham didn't win the F1 title as a rookie, that's being pedantic and completely missing the point I'm making, which is my astonishment at the performance level of two rookies in the top flight of their chosen discipline - Hamilton and Spies.

@ Dynorod

Ah but BSB was a walk in the park with no Ducatis in the series. Exciting as it was, there was no realistic challenger to Camier. He could have won the title riding backwards. BSB needs a pair of competitive Ducatis, then we will see if the R1 is as dominant a machine as we believe.

@Zuzy

So how do you explain the fact that Spies had to learn all of these new tracks, the fact he also was on a new bike, and the cause for all of the poles? The Yam is faster than the Duke? News to me cause Haga and Bayliss sure rode the hell out of it WITH the added cc's. I am probably as big of a Ducati fan as you can get but Spies won the Championship amazingly. I can't wait to see him next year, and hope everyone remembers he will be with the best of the best in GP's and not toss every expectation on him. Good luck Haga next year, but too bad Toseland will be back and wipe the floor with you AGAIN.

The good thing now that Spies is off to motogp is that all these dumb@$$ fanboys of his can stick their comments in the boring motogp section of crash.net and out of the way. Bunch of backwards ret@rds :rolleyes:

Darwaknight,

I was under the impression that Polen wasn't a true rookie in the sense that Spies was. He hadn't had a full season in the series until his championship winning year, however he had several rides in the series.
