I seem to recall that F1 has only one tyre supplier so is single sourced but, there is no restriction on another supplier entering an alternative tyre. As opposed to the bike events have a mandatory supplier.

Small point but ..

No - F1 is contracted to Bridgestone only and it's not open to any one else until the end of the 2010 season when Bridgestone will not re - sign. It is therefore "one make" the same as MotoGP, WSB, BSB.

They happily ignore the fact that it took them three or four years to get anywhere near the pace that was being run on Michelin or Dunlop and if those companies had been allowed to remain in the series speeds would almost certainly be several seconds a lap quicker than what they are.

Still, what else do you pay PR people for!

I wouldn't want a return to Michelin v Dunlop. Who remembers when only three riders had Michelins and all the rest were on Dunlops - the highest placed Dunlop rider used to come in 30 seconds behind the winning Michelin runner.

I think you will find pirelli won the first couple of wsb championships and then along came mich and dunlop, who kicked pirellis ass. The only way pirelli can win at world level is to buy it and i agree, if mich and bridgestone came to the party the lap times would be far faster than they are now.

I'm not so sure faster lap times = better. Consistant tires appear to be a big variable in keeping the bikes fairly close and consistent. adds for better entertainment/more battles... Pirelli has done well! Didn't hear as many complaints from the riders. Unlike Honda, I follow the rider not the bike.(K.I.S.S) Keep it Simple Stupid :)

Yamaha fan. Why are pirelli best for racing? They would get their 4rses well and truly kicked if they were up against bridgestone. Mich found that out to their cost and mich would kick their asses too. Dunlop would kick their asses too and look what happened to them when they tried to join the motogp party! They failed miserably. Pirelli are unable to compete directly against the others. They never have and never will.
