WSBK » Crutchlow aiming high at Kyalami – and 'wants to win'

Having threatened to win at Monza last weekend prior to a stone piercing his oil cooler and ending his race, Yamaha Sterilgarda rookie Cal Crutchlow is out to break his World Superbike Championship duck at Kyalami in South Africa

I think both Cal and JT must be very hungry for a win by now. No doubt both are capable of it.

I'm still not convinced the team is past its setup probs though - there's still no reliable base setting and they seem to have to start from scratch every track. If they're still struggling for side grip then Kya could be tough for them. Hopefully they'll find solutions early in the weekend.

I'm not so sure Don. JT and Crutchlow have been getting podiums and challenging for victory since Assen. I'd say the bike is as good as anything else out there at this point. It's up to James and Cal now.

Little of the data from last year applies. In terms of handling and power delivery, the 2010 R1 is nothing like the '09 bike. They're still struggling badly with side grip, which wasn't an issue last year. According to Eschenbacher (Cal's crew chief): "we need to find a better grip level. We'll probably go for a softer chassis set up and softer damping to start with and see how we get on."

Doesn't sound to me like they can rely on last year's data. Sounds more like 'we have no idea but let's try some sh!t and see what happens.' Besides which, Yamaha flunked this track in 09, so last year's data wouldn't help that much anyway.

they may have issues yet ,but have come on a lot from the first race, its only a matter of time before crutchlow gets to the top step, toseland as well, they were not far away in monza, a lot of racing to come yet from yamaha

All the yamaha boys need is a more luck.

The bike is working almost perfectly and they're both running at the front not letting the aprilia totally check out.

What they need to do is talk to each other and DON'T start fighting each other until they PASS the LEADER and leave him back at a safe distance.

You can't win the race in the 5th lap but you can surely lose it.
