And the corrollary of that is you can't read too much into the realtive positions yet. Some will be confident enough they're still using the time to fine tune set-up, some will be saving the tyres they reckon will give them an edge for later, others will be doing everything they can to get make sure of a place.

Using Smrz on a satellite ducati as a yardstick you have to conclude that there is nothing spectacular about this entire field. If anyone was truly a standout or a rider to watch for the future he would have made himself known by now.

Nori looks to be at the point where he can pull a win out of the hat from time to time...no more. Smrz is not a winner. I look for the usual suspects to finish up front. No surprises.

Smrz is a Saturday hero. He's had lots of great qualifying rides that he has totally failed to convert into race results. This is a Ducati track so no surprise that Fabrizio is up there, but where is Haga?
