Having tested as '3', Biaggi wheels out a '1' plated Aprilia a day ahead of the opening WSBK round.

I suppose everyone knows that (actually true) adage that number 1 plate is heavy so if he's really going to race with it, it's a brave decision. Every world champion should ride with number 1 plate the season after his triumph just to show he's a worthy one.

The World Champion should wear the #1 a fan it irks me to see champions who seem to value their ball cap & t-shirt sales more than a tradition of the sport.

If Biaggi's listed as 3 on the official entry list for 2011, are he and the team allowed to change numbers so close to the start of the season?

He's the Champion, so his bike should hold the number 1 on its fairing. That's part of the prize for winning the championship, and he should do it.

And, hell, is Biaggi going to imitate his "friend" Rossi in this?

Honor to the tradition of the sport. The champion must be #1.

''Designed in a similar style to that of his usual moniker..''
Surely you mean it's a number 1 but with his usual number 'floating' above it...that's what it looked like to me.
I think even Max now realises that 'his' number 3 is not remotely in the same league as 46...nope, no money to be made off that number Max :)
