Was gutted for Eugene yesterday. He had 2nd sewn up in both races, but he definitely seems to be a bit harder on the rear tyre than most. Melandri has grip aplenty towards the end, whereas for Eugene it seems the races are about 5 laps too long. Still a great debut year!

Wow 3rd in his 1st year, to think this time last year he had never ridden a 1000cc motorcycle and now he has beaten everyone but 2 moto gp legends. I'd say thats the rookie of the decade.

@motogpaprillia

I think the rookie of the decade was Spies in SBK. Melandri has never rode an 1000cc SBK machine too, and he's 2nd in the championship. Altough the 3 situations are hardly comparable and I agree that Laverty has a very very successful rookie year.

3rd in the championship because the main contenders have been injured.

He's been on the podium very little to say he's third but that's how the cookie crumbles. Look at how long Rossi was 4th in standings even though he'd only been 3rd once and was 6 or 7th most races.
