WSBK » Aoyama will be 'fast team-mate' for Rea

"One of the objectives we had was to find a fast team-mate for Jonathan and we have definitely ticked that box too!" - Ronald ten Kate.

For someone who has never ridden a SBK before and has just gotten over food poisoning, for Aoyama to be under the lap record in just 3 days is a feat to not overlook, Aoyama will be a consistent top 5-10 runner next season and the perfect rider to compliment Rea's title bid. Although he could have title ambitions of his own!

Aoyama won my allegiance and respect when he duked it out with Simoncelli for the last 250 title. It was the last race of the season, and the winner would take the title. It was a back-and-forth scrap, and Marco put a couple of "hard" passes on Hiroshi (that was a bit of a Marco trademark), but Aoyama persevered and won that race and the title. I personally don't know why he didn't do so well in MotoGP - bike? rider? competition? - but it looks like he's off to a flying start in WSBK! Go Yama! Hey, go Johnny Rea while I'm at it!

I really rated him in 250s (do you get burned as a heretic now for admiting you were praying he'd beat Simoncelli)?

Since he moved up I'd wondered were the 800s too big for the bloke as he obviously had talent but wasn't able to capitalise on it.

Now its coming out his MGP bike was pretty old and inferior then he sticks the Ten Kate 'Blade well under the lap record. I'm pleased for Aoyama and I'm pleased for WSB too. The more good riders in the series the better the racing's gonna be :p

Somehow I get the idea that Hiro never had the chance he deserved on the 800s. He broke his back in his 1st season, that couldn't do him any good and to be on a honda with no factory support made him look ordinary compared to Super Sic.

Whoa, lets hold our horses!!!
Ronald McDonald has said he's fast, but Aoyama sounds exceptionally negative- saying they need to make a lot of adjustments.

Let's wait for a public test or a race before we all say " See, he really is fast!".
Elias went from Hero to Zero and people loved to kick him whilst he was down. In this business you're only as good as your last season, and unfortunately being 10th in SBK is roughly equivelent to last in MotoGP.

Melandri showed how it should be done- enter WSBK and be fast from race one.
If Aoyama can do that I'll be very impressed.

I think a lot of riders have been underated because they can't get on with the last 800s. Guys like RDP, Elias, Aoyama and possibly others have really struggled. But put them back on a Moto2 or WSB and they are fast.

Good first test for HA! But not sure much can be read into how he'll perform over a season.

Qatar is a track he knows well, in addition, it's not really one people struggle to get round fast.

Hope he does well, he deserves a fair crack, but let's wait n see when he gets to places like imola, portimao etc.

Should be a good yr, just wish it would hurry up!
