I'm sorry to hear that the damage was to the C6 and not the T6 vertebra, as previously reported. Of course the prognosis would be somewhat more optimistic had the injury been lower down the spine.

That said it's clearly pointless to speculate any further at the moment, so we can only send our best wishes to Joan and continue to hope for the best possible recovery for him.

So i take it this makes it worse? I'm not particularly up to speed with spinal injuries. Im guessing T is thoracic and C is cervical? And cervical is nearer the top so would have more of an effect on the brain? :( poor guy. I really REALLY hope he pulls through. His battles with Laverty in WSS were epic!! All the best Joan lad x

Not really much else to be said in all honesty.

It's so terribly sad. And scary. And we can't begin to put ourselves in his/his friends/families shoes.

Best wishes.

Thoughts and prayers with Joan Lascorz, his family, team and friends. Horrible injury just hoping for the best possible outcome like everyone else.

"Im guessing T is thoracic and C is cervical?"

Correct, Ben. And neurological impairment is typically experienced in those areas of the body downward of the injury site. So the implications of a neck fracture are potentially greater than those of a lower back injury.

It really depends on the exact nature of the trauma though. There's still reason to be hopeful.

It's so strange that even though you don't know the person, you get so emotionally involved! It is just to do with the fact that these lads provide us with the excitement and enjoyment we love, so when something like this happens, it is so tragic and I think we all feel a real stab in the heart!!
Stay positive everybody!!!!!

So sad because he had so much talent :-(.

When looking at the rider the neck area always looks so exposed. So wsbk riders dont run the blow up suit like lorenzo runs in motogp to support the neck - although crashing into a wall at -2.5G would not really of helped i suppose.

In kart racing some drivers run a foam neck collar. Maybe bike racing in future should develop something of this nature to protect the neck??

Firstly I would again like to send my thoughts to Joan, his family and team..I can not begin to imagine what they are going through. But from a very little information is being released at this time..we should all be staying as positive as we can and stop listening to rumours and wait patiently for the information to be released. Lets hope for more news soon.

Get well Joan.

One never quite knows with back injuries, if the vertebra itself is broken with swelling in the spinal canal then the prognosis will be good. If the spinal cord it's self is damaged, then only time will tell what permanent damage there is.
