WSBK » Pirelli: Teams completely ignored advice

Pirelli retorts criticism back at the World Superbike riders and teams for not heeding its advice before racing was halted at Monza with just half a race completed.

Pirelli can say whatever they want but the facts are that the wet tyre was unsafe for the circuit.

Essentially what Pirelli are saying is that riders should use an intermediate tyre that could not cope with the amount of water that was falling & laying on track so that it could cope with the straights without falling apart.

Tyre demands at Monza are the same as the NW200, pirelli make a dual compound tyre for the NW200 so anyone with half a brain can work out that if demands on the tyre are the same you should use the same tyre.

Shame on pirelli at trying to deflect attention onto the riders for their failures.

Intermidiets werent just working right. Smrz tried them in superpole 2 and was 5 seconds slower than riders on wet tyres. But he kept their pace on wets in superpole 1.

I read elsewhere that because they are going to a different sized wheel (17" instead of the 16.5" they have been using) next year Pirelli hadn't put any time into tyres for this year instead looking to use up it's existing stock. Haslam's wet tyre from superpole was from 2008!

Pirelli are an absolute disgrace nothing less. And if that is right that they issued tyres from 2008 then there should be sanctions in place to make sure they face heavy penalties. This is just another example of the unethical way WSB is run. If this was F1 they would be dragged through the courts with a huge price to pay at the end of it.

Interesting comment @Hmmmmn - that makes perfect sense.

I heard on the commentary from the previous race that the wet tyres were several years old.

Agree with other posters that they should bring the right tyres for the job and it appears they have already developed a special dual compound high speed wet for the NW200 so why didn't they bring some of those?
