Seems like a rather odd move, but Yamaha, Kawasaki, Aprillia and BMW factory teams haven't had a title sponsor, (Yam in their last year and the others this year) so perhaps its about money. Seems odd though, as the BMW Group isn't hurting for cash. A real shame considering their consistent results, but Yamaha in its last year was also very solid.

Love the good show WSBK puts on, hope this trend of manufacturers leaving isn't going to continue and/or hurt the sport.

bloody BMW ffs, first it was F1, WTCC and now this!! they have a habit of doing this kinda thing. Poor melandri just when hes going so well they drop this bomb on him. Now he'll be riding the rest of the year not having any idea where he will be for 2013.

Melandri to Aprilia
Haslam to Honda world Superbikes

@daynal

Don't forget WRC with MINI...

Could be money, could be a prelude to moving to MotoGP. Can't decide yet. Either way, two less bikes for WSBK which is never a good thing.

"We haven't won in Superbike yet, but we are close. Once we win we, maybe, will move onto bigger and better things. MotoGP is the most watched motorcycle racing in the world. Next to F1, it is the benchmark for motor racing. But if you look at individual races and the number of spectators attending, such as in Jerez or Assen, there is no race in F1 in the world that even comes close to the number of spectators. So it's a clear platform for us and we have to think about it. It's a substantial step." - Does this mean BMW in MotoGP, that could save the sport, 4 factories plus Suzuki in 2014 :):):)

He will stay (multi year contract) but in BMW Italia. Haslam, Badovini and Fabricio out Carlos Checa in, this is last info.

Other people have made the comment that BMW have a track record of pulling out just as things are going well - F1, BTCC, WRC etc. We met Leon at a BMW event in June 2011 and he was talking a lot about how well Kawasaki were going, and how unresponsive BMW were to comments he and Troy were making, to the point we were very surprised when he re-signed for BMW. I am gutted Melandri has the better of him at the moment, particularly after Donington, but my money is that he will turn up on a Kwak next year alongside Sykes. I can't see BMW going to MotoGP given that everyone else seems to be cutting costs and reducing their involvement - they still have things to learn in WSB before they should even think about tackling GP. Good luck Leon!
