Well its a two horse race now for the title for sure. that was the last chance for checa or sykes to close the gap enough to make a difference. carlos looked odds on for two wins IF dry so no chance now.

The rule is that the count back should be one lap - does anyone know why the organisers chose two laps on this occasion?

It sounds like they are making up rules as they go along!

I think it was a similar situation to what happened at Brno in the WSS race in that not everyone had completed the lap that they would have counted back on because the gaps were pretty big. As such, they need to count back on the last lap everyone had completed fully.

I think, that's my educated/uneducated theory.

That or many of the crashes were caused by fluid, some say, so they made it fairer since they weren't showing the red/yellow flags? I don't know...

From the FIM rulebook:-
The results will be the results taken at the last point where the leader and all other riders on the same lap as the leader had completed a full lap without the red flag being displayed calculated as in the principle set out in the following example:
Example of a race consisting of 30 laps:
If a Red Flag is shown when the leader is on his 10th lap after completing his 9th lap and all other riders have not completed the 9th lap, then the race result will be 8 laps completed, and the second
part will consist of 22 laps.
If a Red Flag is shown when the leader and all other riders on the same lap as the leader are on the 10th lap after completing the 9th lap, the race result will be 9 laps completed and the second part will
consist of 21 laps.

The count back rule sucks, if you fall off. Tough. The rider is in control, so, fall off, no points, especially when you ask for the race to be stopped, after you! have taken a tumble. Baby.
