I am intrigued to know why anyone would pick the R1?

It can't even compete on a level playing field as the rest, they even had to make up special rules for them in BSB to allow the R1 be competitive.

The R1 dominates AMA racing. I also give it the vote for best sounding (aside from the Aprilia). Whether it is the "less" capable of the bikes or not... 90% of the average riders can't exploit what any of them are capable of anyways. All that said, I am a Kawi fan and the newest zx10r is excellent. It is more sinister looking than the competition! And it's FAST.

I think any of the current crop of WSBK-elligable machines is worth having, they are all good but in differant areas. However, the Panigale has proven to be somewhat...fragile in superstock racing, so I would probably avoid that. I'd probably have an S1000RR and take hea facotry heated grips option too, so I can continue enjoying my argh-argh through the colder times of year!
