Sykes, Davies & Guintoli were the standout riders for me I think. All 3 have had to fight hard to get any real recognition and also to get decent teams, so they've earned everything they've got IMO.
Biaggi - we all know he's class, but as well as expecting his level, he did lose the plot a bit as well. not as much as Melandri though, who had the title in his grasp to lose, and basically came apart. Maybe a bit of karma for some questionable tactics?
Honourable mention to Rea, who continues to be the only guy able to get real pace out of the 'Blade.

FACT: Sykes (and BAz and the Pedercini guys) were on the LEAST DEVELOPED BIKE ON THE GRID!!! As the year went on and more and more development was done, the better the bike worked over race distance! (GO FIGURE!!!)

If you can name me the last rider to win a DRY RACE on a ZX10 I will excuse you. Seriously, try looking at a situation in context. If the other Kawasaki's were ahead of him it would be understandable, but your argument makes no sense at all.

"if you don't believe it go to a brain doctor" What a charming contribution, it makes your point seem so much more valid...

Anyway, technically Sykes's win at Monza was done in dry conditions even if it was half distance, and it was bone-dry by the end of Moscow/Portimao/Magny-Cours too.

Surely it's the measure of a rider that he can win in such tricky conditions. He was a multiple podium winner in the dry too, so it's not like he can only ride in wet/damp/changeable conditions.

Also, Sykes was closer to Biaggi/Melandri in the dry, than they often both were to Sykes in tricky conditions.

Biaggi's performances at Phillip Island and Misano were EPIC (especially at Misano)........Sykes was good this year, but has already been pointed, he won most of his races on a damp track....He didn't once have a weekend like Max did in Oz and Misano.........
Max is the champ because he was the best...end of.

I choose Tom for the best rider of 2012 because i remenber the hard times he had and also Kawasaki!! the Team Kawasaki was really bad but then him 2011 the Team star with a brand new bike and where struggling hard but after some worck this year was like a revolution proving that the Kawasaki is the fastest bike doing a circuit wish shows how good is the bike balance and engine but sadlly they still have hard time with tyres, anyway this big change of regular Team to Top Team and title contender is a prove of Worck.. But i also give my good credits to Melandri for great performance and for been the 1 rider putting the S 1000rr on the place that was expected since BMW join Wsbk that is fightingh for victoris and Champion but i also dont forget Max Biaggi i still say the same he was lucky this year but he is a professinal very good rider and with is Age 4sure he also deserve my credits is a Motorcyle Legend 4sure and i allways remember is moments with Rossi even if was not so good for him
