Marco Melandri confirms he is considering his options for the 2014 World Superbike Championship, revealing he is in talks to switch from BMW to either Aprilia or Kawasaki.

If he goes to Aprillia, who will be leaving? Both Eugene Laverty and Syvan Guintolli are at the top! Kawasaki will have to get rid of Loris Baz who is doing fine apart from a couple of falls which can happen to anybody. Interesting this as it will also leave a gap at B.M.W. for someone - maybe Nicky Hayden will fill it!

Read the story & not just the headlines. Asking questions that are already covered just makes you look silly.


BMW have themselves to blame for this seasons results though. They had a team that developed nicely over a few seasons into real title contenders ... & just when they were on the brink of a championship, the factory pulled the carpet out from underneath them & awarded the contract to a team that wasn't at the same level yet.
In a year or two BMW Italia may be contenders, but the blame for this lies squarely with BMW Motorad,

The grass always seems greener on the otherside. However I could see Aprilia being an option and rumours about Laverty going up to GP may have some weight as it's probably a matter of time before Aprilia announces a factory squad or gets forced to turn their efforts into a factory effort there.
Also how many more bikes will be on the WSBK grid best season Yachnich (I think thats right) with Yamaha possibly moving up, kawasaki expanding, PTR wanting to move up also, honda and suzuki might finally offer some more support to there teams or release an updated model of their bikes.
Overall things are looking interesting lets hope the racing gets better not worse.
Either way the 17 inch wheels are probably Melandri's biggest problem not necessarily his team.

Aprilia would suit Melendri better Than the kwak. At least on paper, as it is a smaller bike, wich requires a smoother style, with all the finesse of a gp bike rider like Melandri.

On the other side, the kawasaki, is known by its remarked agressive power delivery. Perhaps the fact that the team is being run by the very competitive motocard outfit, with direct support from the factory is a plus. But if they fit Melandri outside the motocard structure, perhaps he should choose the aprilia factory team.

don't do it "melandro". STAY PUT. I know what you're doing. you're entertaining other manufacturers to put pressure on BMW to sort the kit. i get it. this is even understandable. you're from grandprix, so this is all you know.

however (comma) this is WSBK. you're in production now. in "proddys" there's something called HOMOLOGATION. this means they CAN'T just throw a new frame at a problem, they CANT just revise an engine's bore n stroke, they CAN'T just change a firing order mid season.

these things have to be incorporated into the manufacturing cycle and offered for sale to the public first. this is what makes WSBK the 25 yr success story that it is. so try to curb that "me, me, me" grandprix prima donna bulls%@#it for a second and look at the BIG PICTURE. a picture that benefits not just you, but EVERYBODY.

we both know your personal crew hasn't changed. the reason you're having problems is simply the switch away from 16.5 rubber to 17 (i predicted the kawi, yes, WOULD go better). you're Italian crew's settings don't work as well as they initially did. and look, compared to all the others, the S1's a veritable "babe in the woods" in development terms. that means it can only get better... MUCH BETTER.

and that's where the good news comes in. :) your kit debuted in 2010. it got it's mid-life update in 2012. everybody knows during the mid-life update manufacturers never make any major changes. and true to form BM really didn't. it was BNG, bold new graphics mostly. ok, we're coming upon 2014 (the 4 yr mark). that means you can reasonably expect EVERYTHING learned from their first 5 years of competition to finally be HOMOLGATED into the new S1000. you're telling me, you don't want to be around for that...?

it's BMW, rest assured they WILL improve the bike and keep their edge in the marketplace (especially with the forthcoming austerity rules). even better, they have a BILLION DOLLARS (with a B) in engineering resources that guarantees they can and WILL pull it off. who besides Honda can say this...? A: nobody.

so Manu, talk some sense into him, or hit him or something will ya...? he's about to sabotage his future (and yours) just when it's about to get good. if you guy's leave now, i promise you... YOU WILL MISS OUT...!!! ask around, s1 bulleye's these topics like 98%. better yet, do your homework (or tell your manager to do HIS homework) and you'll see that everything said here, will in fact come to pass.
